Ingredients
  

For the Steak

  • 1 pound beef steaks (e.g., cube steak or your preferred cut)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Coating

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

For the Gravy

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil for frying

Preparation

  • Season your steak with salt and pepper on both sides, enhancing the flavor profile.
  • In a bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Coat each steak generously in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s well covered. Shake off any excess flour.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat until hot.
  • Add the coated steaks to the skillet, cooking them for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Once the steaks are cooked, remove them from the skillet and set them aside.
  • Add the beef broth to the skillet, scraping up any browned bits for flavor.
  • Stir in the heavy cream and let it simmer to thicken, stirring occasionally.
  • Return the steaks to the skillet, spooning the creamy gravy over them. Let them warm for a minute before serving.

Notes

To achieve the perfect crispy coating, ensure your oil is hot enough before adding the steak. If a few flour particles sizzle when dropped in the oil, you’re ready to start frying. Experiment with different spices to the flour mixture for added flavor. The less you disturb the coating while cooking, the crisper it’ll be. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
