  • 1 pound ground beef (Halal)
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) baked beans (ensure they're pork-free)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional for sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika or more to taste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and brown the ground beef, stirring occasionally. When nearly done, add in the chopped onions, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until vegetables are tender.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned beef mixture with the baked beans, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until well incorporated.
  • Pour the mixture into a greased casserole dish, spreading it out evenly.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the casserole.

Baking

  • Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Let it cool for about 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For healthier options, swap ground beef for lean ground turkey or chicken, or try lentils or quinoa for a vegetarian version. You can prepare the beef and vegetable mixture in advance.
