  • 1 cup rolled oats Use regular rolled oats for best texture.
  • 4 cups milk (or plant-based alternative) Regular or any preferred non-dairy milk works.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Adjust according to taste.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt A pinch to enhance flavor.

Optional Toppings

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, bring the milk to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  • Once the milk is boiling, stir in the rolled oats and a pinch of salt. Reduce the heat to low.
  • Add sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon to the oats. Stir well to combine.
  • Allow the oats to cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens to your desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Serve warm in bowls, topped with your choice of fresh fruit, raisins, or a drizzle of honey.

Notes

For a thicker oatmeal, cook a bit longer. If you prefer creamier oatmeal, add an extra splash of milk while cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
