Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey (Halal) Can be swapped with ground chicken or turkey.
  • 1 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Use gluten-free option if desired.
  • 1/2 cup grated Swiss cheese More cheese for topping.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup beef broth (Halal)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, add a splash of olive oil over medium heat. Toss in your finely chopped onions and cook until they turn translucent and begin to brown, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, sautéed onions, breadcrumbs, Swiss cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and pepper. Mix gently using your hands until just combined.
  • Transfer the mixture into a loaf pan or shape it by hand into a loaf on a lined baking sheet, leaving space around the sides.
  • Pour the beef broth over the top of the meatloaf.
  • Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for about 45-50 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • In the last 10 minutes of baking, sprinkle more Swiss cheese on top.
  • Once cooked, let the meatloaf rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

For a crispy top, broil the loaf for a few minutes post-baking. Keep an eye on the meatloaf while it’s in the oven to prevent overcooking.
