Ingredients
  

Base and Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • pinch salt

Caramel Mixture

  • 1 cup caramel candies, unwrapped
  • 1 tablespoon milk (or dairy-free alternative)

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  • In a bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Gradually blend in the flour and a pinch of salt until you have a smooth dough.
  • Press about two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking pan, creating an even layer.

Cooking

  • In a saucepan, melt the caramel candies with the milk over low heat. Stir until smooth.
  • Pour the melted caramel over the pressed dough layer. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and nuts on top, then crumble the remaining dough over the filling.
  • Place the pan in the oven and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden and set.
  • Allow to cool completely in the pan before slicing into square bars for serving.

Notes
