Ingredients
  

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet instant dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk (warm, not boiling)
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs

Filling

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Frosting

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp milk (to reach desired consistency)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • Stir the warm milk and melted butter together, then add to the flour mixture along with the eggs. Mix until the dough is shaggy.
  • Gradually add in the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.

Kneading and Rising

  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until it's smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Filling and Rolling

  • In a bowl, combine brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and chocolate chips.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out onto a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Sprinkle the filling mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a little border around the edges.
  • Starting from one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal it.
  • Cut the log into 12 equal slices and place them in a greased baking dish.
  • Cover with a cloth and let the rolls rise again for about 30 minutes.

Baking and Frosting

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • While the rolls are baking, whip together the softened butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until creamy.
  • Once the rolls are baked, drizzle the frosting over the top and serve warm.

Notes

These rolls are best enjoyed fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the microwave for 15-20 seconds or in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
