Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  • In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until bubbly.
  • In another bowl, mix flour, salt, and egg, then add the yeast mixture. Combine until a dough forms.

Knead and Chill

  • Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Roll it into a rectangle, flatten it, and place butter in the center.
  • Fold the dough over the butter, and refrigerate for at least an hour.

Roll and Fold

  • After chilling, roll the dough into a larger rectangle and perform a series of folds (similar to folding a letter) to create layers.
  • Repeat this rolling and folding process 2-3 times, chilling in between if necessary.

Shape the Cronuts

  • Roll the dough out again to about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Use a round cutter to cut out circles, and a smaller cutter to create the donut hole.

Let Them Rise

  • Place the cut-out cronuts on a tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Cover them and let them rise for about 30 minutes.

Heat Oil and Fry

  • In a deep pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the cronuts for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Glaze and Fill

  • Remove them from the oil and let them cool slightly before glazing or filling them with your favorite cream.

Serve

  • Enjoy warm and savor the delightful, flaky goodness!

Notes

For the best results, ensure butter is cold but pliable, and don't rush the resting and rising times for optimal texture. Can be served with coffee or chocolate.
