  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Optional, for extra warmth
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice Optional but delightful
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice To brighten the flavors
  • a pinch salt To balance everything

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by peeling, coring, and dicing your apples.
  • In a large bowl, combine the diced apples with sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Stir well to coat all the apples evenly.
  • Pour the mixture into your crock pot. Don’t worry about creating a perfect layer; it will blend beautifully as it cooks.

Cooking

  • Set your crock pot to low heat and let it cook for about 8 to 10 hours or overnight.
  • After cooking, use a wooden spoon to stir the apple mixture. If you prefer a smoother consistency, blend it with an immersion blender.
  • Allow the apple butter to cool before transferring it into sterilized jars.

Notes
