  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold water Adjust as needed for batter consistency

Frying Ingredients

  • Oil Oil for frying (vegetable or canola) Ensure oil is Halal
  • 1 bag large marshmallows (16-20)
  • Powdered sugar For dusting

Preparation

  • Set up a large, deep pot or fryer filled with oil, about 2-3 inches deep, and heat it over medium to medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the cold water while whisking until you have a smooth, thick batter.

Cooking

  • Take one marshmallow and dip it into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off before carefully lowering it into the hot oil.
  • Fry the marshmallows in batches for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to turn them gently for even cooking.
  • Once cooked, place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving warm.

Notes

Consider adding vanilla or almond extract to the batter for extra flavor. Ensure to keep oil at the right temperature to avoid greasy marshmallows. Avoid frying too many at once.
