Ingredients

Filling ingredients

  • 8 oz crab meat Ensure it’s sourced from a reliable supplier
  • 4 oz cream cheese Softened
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped Or 1 tsp dried parsley
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Wrapping and frying ingredients

  • 1 package spring roll wrappers or artisan phyllo dough
  • as needed oil for frying Vegetable oil works best

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese with the crab meat, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, salt, and pepper until evenly combined.

Assembly

  • Lay a spring roll wrapper on a flat surface. Spoon about a tablespoon of the crab filling onto the center. Fold the sides over the filling, then roll tightly, sealing the edges with a little water.

Frying

  • In a deep frying pan, heat oil over medium heat to about 350°F. Ensure the oil is about an inch deep for shallow frying.
  • Carefully place a few crab bites into the pan, frying until each side is golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Avoid overcrowding the pan.

Serving

  • Remove the bites and drain on paper towels to eliminate excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

For substitutions, try using shrimp or a mix of seafood for a different twist while remaining Halal-compliant. Watch out for cooking time to prevent the wrappers from becoming overly crunchy. Storing leftovers: Airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days or freeze before frying for up to a month. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes, avoid microwaving to prevent sogginess.
