Ingredients

Onion Ring Chips

  • 1 large onion Peeled and sliced into thick rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For dredging
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs For coating
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar or mozzarella
  • 2 large eggs Beaten
  • to taste N/A salt and pepper For seasoning
  • as needed N/A oil For frying

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by peeling the onion and slicing it into thick rings—about half an inch thick works perfectly.
  • In three separate bowls, set up your dredging station: Mix the all-purpose flour with salt and pepper in the first bowl, beat the eggs in the second bowl, and combine breadcrumbs with shredded cheese in the third bowl.

Coating and Frying

  • Take one onion ring and dip it first in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Shake off any excess flour, then dip it in the egg wash. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb and cheese mixture until it’s thoroughly covered.
  • In a deep skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. To check if the oil is ready, drop in a small piece of bread—if it sizzles, it’s time to start frying.
  • Carefully add the coated onion rings in batches, frying for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  • Once crispy, remove the onion rings and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Serve warm.

Notes

For a dairy-free option, consider using a Halal-friendly cheese blend. Make sure not to overcrowd the pan while frying to achieve the perfect crisp.
