Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup milk, warmed around 110°F
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Filling

  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

For the Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk to desired consistency

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk with the granulated sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add the softened butter, egg, salt, and flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until the dough begins to form.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, covering it with a clean towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
  • While the dough rises, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle, about ¼ inch thick.
  • Spread the softened butter over the rolled-out dough, and then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top.
  • Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly to form a log. Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 12 equal rolls.
  • Place the sliced rolls in a greased baking dish, cover them, and let them rise for another 15 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • While the rolls are baking, beat together the softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
  • Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before generously applying the cream cheese frosting.
