  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup ketchup for the meatloaf mixture
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar for the meatloaf mixture
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce optional
  • 1/2 cup ketchup for glaze

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, 1/4 cup ketchup, brown sugar, eggs, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until just combined, taking care not to overmix.
  • Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a greased baking dish or lined baking pan.
  • Mix the additional 1/2 cup of ketchup with a tablespoon of brown sugar and spread it over the top of the meatloaf.

Baking

  • Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • Allow the meatloaf to rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For ingredient substitutions, consider using ground turkey or chicken. Keep an eye on internal temperature to avoid dryness. Adding fresh herbs can enhance flavor. Avoid shaping the loaf too tightly.
