Ingredients

For the crab mixture

  • 1 pound fresh crab meat Ensure cleaned and shell-free
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Preferably panko for extra crunch
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning Or your favorite spice mix
  • Salt and pepper To taste
  • Oil for frying (like vegetable or canola oil)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients, ensuring the crab meat is clean and free of shells.

Mixing the Base

  • In a large bowl, combine crab meat, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, bell pepper, onion, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper. Gently fold the ingredients to keep crab lumps intact.

Forming the Crunchies

  • Scoop out portions of the mixture and shape them into small patties or balls, about the size of a golf ball.

Heating the Oil

  • In a frying pan, heat about an inch of oil over medium heat. Ensure the oil is hot enough that a patty sizzles immediately upon contact.

Frying to Perfection

  • Carefully place the formed crab bites into the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.

Serving

  • Transfer the cooked crab bites to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Be gentle when mixing to maintain lumps of crab meat for texture. Monitor oil temperature to prevent burning.
