Ingredients

For the rolls

  • 2 cups warm milk (110-115°F)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter, divided
  • 2 large eggs
  • 5-6 cups all-purpose flour Use as needed to achieve the desired dough consistency.
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • Once the yeast is activated, add 1/4 cup melted butter and eggs to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
  • Gradually incorporate 5 cups of flour and salt. Mix until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour as needed if the dough is too sticky.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into small equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball and place in a greased baking pan.
  • Cover the shaped rolls with a cloth and let them rise again for 30-45 minutes, until puffed.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the tops of the rolls with the remaining melted butter. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove the rolls from the oven and brush with more butter if desired. Serve warm with cinnamon butter.

Notes

Ensure accurate flour measurement by spooning the flour into the measuring cup and leveling it off. Optionally, add herbs or cheese to the dough for added flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
