Ingredients
  

For the Topping

  • 6 ripe tomatoes, diced Choose ripe, in-season tomatoes for best flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste Salt and pepper

For the Bread

  • 1 baguette or crusty Italian bread Slice into 1/2-inch thick slices for toasting.

Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, minced garlic, and chopped basil.
  • Drizzle with olive oil, and add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Mix well and let the flavors meld for about 10 minutes while you prepare the bread.

Toasting the Bread

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Slice the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  • Place them on a baking sheet, and toast them in the preheated oven for about 5–7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Assembly

  • Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  • Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each slice of bread.

Serving

  • Enjoy your bruschetta immediately while the bread is still crisp!

Notes

Store leftover tomato topping in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Keep the toasted bread in a separate container. Reheat lightly in the oven before assembling.
