Ingredients
  

Bread

  • 1 piece French baguette or Italian bread

Tomato Topping

  • 4 pieces ripe tomatoes, diced Choose ripened, in-season tomatoes for best flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Use for both toasting bread and topping.
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • optional Balsamic vinegar, for drizzling Add for extra flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Slice the baguette or Italian bread into about 1/2-inch thick slices.
  • Arrange the slices on a baking sheet and brush them lightly with olive oil.
  • Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes until golden and crispy.

Topping Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, minced garlic, and chopped basil.
  • Drizzle in the remaining olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • If desired, add a splash of balsamic vinegar for added depth of flavor.

Assembly

  • Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for a minute.
  • Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each slice of toasted bread.

Serving

  • Serve the bruschetta immediately while the bread is still warm.

Notes

To avoid sogginess, assemble bruschetta just before serving, or serve the tomato mixture on the side. Store leftover topping separately from the bread.
