Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Cut into pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs At room temperature

For the Filling and Coating

  • 1 cup whipped cream Soft peaks
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Chocolate sauce optional Chocolate sauce For drizzling before serving

Instructions

Preparation of Cream Puff Dough

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the water and unsalted butter. Stir until the butter melts and the mixture comes to a gentle boil.
  • Quickly add the all-purpose flour and salt to the boiling butter-water mixture. Stir continuously for 2-3 minutes until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  • Remove the pan from the heat. Allow it to cool for a few minutes, then add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.

Baking the Puffs

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Drop tablespoon-sized amounts of dough onto the sheet, leaving enough space between each dollop. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the puffs are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.

Filling the Puffs

  • While the puffs are cooling, whip the cream until soft peaks form, then gently fold in the powdered sugar and cinnamon.
  • Once the puffs are cool, use a small knife to carefully cut a slit in the side of each puff. Pipe or spoon the whipped cream mixture into each puff until filled.
  • Roll the filled cream puffs in a cinnamon-sugar mixture before serving for that classic churro taste! Drizzle with chocolate sauce if desired.

Notes

Egg temperature: For better mixing, ensure your eggs are at room temperature before adding them to the dough. Don't peek: Avoid opening the oven door while baking; it can affect the texture of your puffs. Variations may include toppings like crushed nuts or shredded coconut.
