  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup cherries, pitted and halved Fresh or frozen cherries can be used.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined without overmixing.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips and halved cherries until evenly distributed.
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before cutting into squares.

Notes

For best results, use fresh cherries or thaw and drain frozen ones. Customize mix-ins by using white chocolate or nuts. Store in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
