Chinese Takeout Sesame Chicken

Ingredients
  

For the Chicken

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 pieces eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Or crushed cornflakes or panko

For the Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey Adjust for sweetness
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water

For Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 pieces green onions, sliced For garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Season chicken pieces with a pinch of salt.
  • Set up a dredging station with bowls for flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs. Coat chicken pieces in flour, dip in eggs, and coat with breadcrumbs.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry chicken in batches for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  • In a small saucepan, whisk together soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and cornstarch mixture over medium heat. Thicken for about 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.

Serving

  • In a large bowl, add the fried chicken and pour the sauce over it. Toss gently to coat each piece. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness. This dish also freezes well for about a month.
