  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup Adds rich flavor.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional) Walnuts or pecans add flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add in the maple syrup and eggs, mixing until fully combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined; do not over-mix.
  • Fold in chopped nuts or chocolate chips if using.
  • Drop generous balls of dough onto a lined baking sheet, leaving space between each ball.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and the center looks slightly underbaked.
  • Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. Chill the dough for 30 minutes if in a warm climate to maintain shape. Don’t overbake for chewy texture.
