  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 cup diced apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup Choose based on preference
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional) For added texture

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of applesauce, 1/2 cup of honey (or maple syrup), and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir well until fully mixed.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together 2 cups of rolled oats, 1 cup of diced apples, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ones. Stir until everything is evenly coated.
  • Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper. Pour the mixture in and spread it evenly.
  • If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts over the top and press them gently into the oat mixture.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and set.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing into bars.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight and microwave for 10-20 seconds for warm bars.
