  • 4 large large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter For dotting on top
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
  • Chives for garnish (optional)

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a greased casserole dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
  • Sprinkle half of the cheese and half of the minced garlic over the potatoes.
  • Add the remaining potatoes, followed by the remaining cheese and garlic.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, milk, salt, and pepper, then pour over the layered potatoes.
  • Dot the top with butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs if using.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  • Garnish with chives before serving.

Notes

Best served hot and fresh. Can be enjoyed with roast chicken, steak, or grilled fish. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for a month.
