Ingredients
  

For the base

  • 1 cup butter Soft but not melted for easier mixing.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans Chop into small pieces for even distribution.

Toppings

  • 1 cup caramel sauce Add more sauce for a thicker layer if desired.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional, for extra flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the flour, salt, and vanilla extract until just combined.
  • Fold in the chopped pecans.
  • Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and drizzle caramel sauce over the top.
  • Optionally, sprinkle chocolate chips on top if desired.
  • Allow to cool before cutting into bars.

Notes

These bars can be served warm or at room temperature. They can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or refrigerated for up to two weeks. Bring back to room temperature before serving.
