Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ripe plums (pitted and chopped) Use ripe and sweet plums for the best flavor.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar Can substitute with a safe canning sugar alternative.
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed) Adds tartness and enhances flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) For additional flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional) Adds warmth to the jam.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by washing your plums thoroughly. Halve them, remove the pits, and chop them into smaller pieces.

Cooking

  • In a large pot, combine the chopped plums, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir gently over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring frequently. Keep an eye on it, as the plums will gradually break down and release their juices.
  • After about 15-20 minutes of boiling, check if the jam has reached your desired thickness. You can use a spoon to scoop some onto a plate; if it sets, it's ready!
  • Stir in vanilla extract and cinnamon, if using. Give it a taste, adjust the sweetness as needed, and stir well.
  • Carefully ladle the hot jam into clean, sterilized jars, leaving a bit of space at the top. Wipe the rims clean and seal with lids.
  • If you want to store your jam long-term, process the jars in a boiling water bath for about 10 minutes. Otherwise, simply let them cool and store in the fridge.
  • Once cooled, enjoy your jam on toast, as a topping for desserts, or just by the spoonful!

Notes

Select quality plums for best results. Store in the refrigerator for immediate use or in a cool pantry for up to one year if processed properly.
