Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits about 8-10
  • 1 pound ground sausage or a meat substitute like turkey or chicken
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk or a plant-based milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheese optional, like cheddar or mozzarella

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground sausage, breaking it apart with a spatula until fully cooked.
  • Stir in the flour with the sausage to create a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk until combined. Add in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Continue stirring until the gravy thickens, then remove from heat.
  • Cut the refrigerated biscuits into quarters and spread them evenly over the bottom of the greased baking dish. Pour the sausage gravy over the biscuit pieces to evenly coat them.
  • If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese on top of the gravy for extra flavor and gooeyness.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and the gravy is bubbly.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Scoop out portions and enjoy your delicious Biscuits and Gravy Casserole.
