Ingredients

For the Casserole

  • 8 pieces refrigerated biscuits (your choice – flaky, buttermilk, or cheese)
  • 1 lb sausage (turkey or chicken)
  • 2 cups milk Use low-fat or skim milk for a lighter version
  • 1 tablespoon flour For thickening
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional, for extra creaminess) Cheddar, Monterey Jack, or pepper jack are great options

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) so that it’s ready for baking.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the sausage until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the browned sausage and stir for about a minute. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring to create a smooth gravy. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • In a large baking dish, cut the refrigerated biscuits into quarters and spread them out evenly at the bottom of the dish.
  • Pour the sausage gravy over the biscuit pieces, ensuring they are well covered. If using cheese, sprinkle it over the top.
  • Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your comforting Biscuits and Gravy Casserole with a smile!
