Preparation

  • In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté for about 3-5 minutes until they’re translucent.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Cooking

  • Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the tomato paste, stirring to combine all ingredients well.
  • Incorporate sugar, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. If you’re feeling adventurous, toss in some chopped red bell pepper for added flavor.
  • Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, and let it cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary. Serve over your favorite spaghetti or any pasta of choice. Enjoy!

Notes

Tip: If you don’t have dried herbs, use fresh ones (double the amount). Avoid over-salting initially, and experiment with add-ins like mushrooms or zucchini.
