Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks Use starchy potatoes for optimal creaminess.
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream Use heavy cream for extra creaminess.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Melted for easy integration.
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder or fresh herbs (like chives) For added flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by peeling and cutting the russet potatoes into evenly-sized chunks.
  • Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Let them cook for about 15-20 minutes until tender.
  • Once cooked, drain the potatoes in a colander and let them sit for a minute to remove excess moisture.

Mashing

  • In a large mixing bowl, add the drained potatoes. Use a potato masher or ricer to mash until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Gradually stir in the melted butter and milk (or cream). Mix until well-combined and creamy. Taste and season with salt and pepper to your liking.

Serving

  • Transfer your mashed potatoes to a serving bowl, adding an extra pat of butter on top if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

To ensure perfect mashed potatoes, use starchy potatoes like russets, warm your milk and butter before mixing, and don’t over-mash to avoid a gluey texture. Experiment with garlic powder or fresh herbs for added flavor.
