Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh crab meat
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/4 cup green onion finely chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the crab meat, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, chopped green onion, salt, and pepper. Gently mix until just combined, being careful not to break up the crab meat too much.
  • Chill the Mixture: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for about 30 minutes. This step helps the flavors meld and allows the cakes to hold their shape when cooked.
  • Form the Cakes: Once chilled, take small portions of the mixture and gently form them into patties, about 2-3 inches in diameter. You should be able to make around 8-10 crab cakes, depending on the size.
  • Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the crab cakes to the skillet.
  • Cook the Cakes: Fry the crab cakes for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy. Be cautious not to overcrowd the pan – cook in batches if necessary.
  • Drain and Serve: Once cooked, place the crab cakes on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce or topping!
