For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar

For the Cream Cheese Swirl

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, combine milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ones and mix until just combined.
  • In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon.

Baking

  • Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish, smoothing it out evenly.
  • Sprinkle the cinnamon filling on top and add the remaining batter over the filling, smoothing it over.
  • In a bowl, beat together softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Dollop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture onto the cake, and use a knife to swirl it gently into the batter.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool for a bit before slicing it into squares. Enjoy warm!

Notes

For best flavor, use high-quality vanilla extract and fresh cinnamon. Be careful not to over-mix the batter for a fluffier texture. You can customize the cream cheese frosting with a squeeze of lemon juice or a sprinkle of nuts for extra flavor.
