Main Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas Use ripe but firm bananas.
  • 1 package instant vanilla pudding mix (5 oz)
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box vanilla wafers

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the instant vanilla pudding mix with cold milk. Whisk for about 2 minutes until it thickens.
  • In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with the granulated sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  • In a large serving dish, start with a layer of vanilla wafers at the bottom.
  • Slice two ripe bananas and distribute them evenly over the wafers.
  • Pour half of the prepared pudding over the bananas and wafers, spreading it gently.
  • Add another layer of vanilla wafers, followed by the remaining sliced bananas, and then the rest of the pudding.
  • Finish it off with a generous layer of whipped cream and sprinkle a few crushed vanilla wafers on top.

Chilling

  • Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

Allowing the pudding to rest in the refrigerator helps develop flavors. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This dessert doesn't freeze well as the bananas can turn brown and mushy.
