Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Balsamic vinegar Preferably high-quality for the best flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar Optional, for those who prefer sweeter reductions.
  • Water Optional, if you want to adjust the thickness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather your ingredients: balsamic vinegar, sugar, and any optional ingredients.
  • In a small saucepan, pour in the balsamic vinegar and add the sugar if you’re using it. Stir well to combine.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring it to a gentle simmer.
  • Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning, until reduced by half and thickened to a syrupy consistency.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool. It will thicken more as it cools.
  • Drizzle over your favorite dishes or store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

To ensure a perfect balsamic reduction, be patient as fast cooking can lead to burning. Use good quality balsamic vinegar for the best flavor. Experiment with flavors by adding herbs or spices such as rosemary or thyme.
