Donut Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • to taste amount Sugar for topping for the caramelized layer
  • optional Vanilla bean or additional flavorings to enhance the donut

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease the donut pan with cooking spray or melted butter.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  • Fill each donut cavity about 2/3 full using a piping bag or a spoon.

Baking

  • Bake for about 15-18 minutes or until lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
  • Sprinkle sugar on top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until bubbly and golden brown.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For a lighter version, consider using almond milk instead of heavy cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days or freeze for up to a month.
