  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Glaze

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar for glaze, optional

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Whisk to blend.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the applesauce, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined.
  • Grease your donut pan or use silicone molds.
  • Spoon or pipe your batter into the donut molds, filling them about 2/3 full.

Baking

  • Place the filled pan in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the donuts spring back when touched.
  • Cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Finishing Touches

  • If desired, mix the optional powdered sugar with a little water to create a light glaze and drizzle over the cooled donuts.

Notes

For variations, try adding pumpkin spice or ginger. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
