Ingredients
  

For the fritters

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg optional for extra warmth
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups diced apples peeled and cored
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted

For the glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk or a plant-based alternative

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), salt, and granulated sugar until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the applesauce, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Stir in the melted butter.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredient bowl, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Carefully fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • Using a spoon or scoop, drop heaping tablespoons of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Baking

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Glazing

  • While the fritters bake, whisk together powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth.
  • Once fritters come out of the oven, let them cool slightly before drizzling with the glaze.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Freeze in an airtight container for up to a month. Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes.
