Ingredients

For the Donuts

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted, for topping)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for cinnamon sugar topping)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon (for cinnamon sugar topping)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan with cooking spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well and set aside.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the apple cider, granulated sugar, applesauce, vegetable oil, and eggs until smooth.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  • Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.

Baking

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a donut comes out clean. Allow them to cool for a few minutes in the pan before transferring them to a wire rack.

Coating

  • In a separate bowl, melt the butter. Mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon in another bowl.
  • Once the donuts have cooled slightly, dip the tops in the melted butter and then roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!
