Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce Adds umami flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar Provides acidity.
  • 2 tablespoons honey For sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger Gives a zingy kick.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil For a nutty aroma.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Optional, for thickening the glaze.

Main ingredients

  • 4 fillets cod (approximately 6 oz each) Can be substituted with other firm white fish.
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning.
  • as needed Sesame seeds and green onions For garnish.

Preparation

  • Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels.
  • Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, grated ginger, minced garlic, and sesame oil. If using, stir in cornstarch.
  • Marinate the cod fillets in a shallow dish with the marinade for 10-15 minutes.

Cooking

  • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  • Add marinated cod fillets and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until fish is opaque.
  • Optionally, simmer leftover marinade in the pan for additional sauce.

Serving

  • Remove cooked cod from skillet and place on a serving plate.
  • Drizzle with remaining glaze and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For best results, ensure the skillet is hot before adding cod to achieve proper sear. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 1-2 days, and reheat gently.
