Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup apple cider
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk

For Frying and Coating

  • Oil for frying Use enough oil for deep frying.
  • Cinnamon sugar For coating the doughnuts.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the apple cider, eggs, and buttermilk until smooth.
  • Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Cooking

  • In a deep frying pan, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium heat.
  • Using a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters, cut out shapes from the doughnut batter.
  • Carefully place a few doughnuts in the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry each side for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • While the doughnuts are still warm, toss them in cinnamon sugar until they are fully coated.
  • Allow the doughnuts to cool slightly before enjoying them fresh.
