Ingredients

For the Fritters

  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Fresher apples yield better flavor.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Plus more for sprinkling.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by peeling and dicing your apples into small pieces. Set them aside while you mix your dry ingredients.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the egg and add the milk. Mix until well combined.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Don’t overmix; a few lumps are okay!
  • Gently fold in the diced apples until they’re evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • In a large pot or deep skillet, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Cooking

  • Using a spoon or a small ice cream scoop, drop batter into the hot oil, frying a few fritters at a time until they’re golden brown, around 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Once cooked, transfer the fritters to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • While they’re still warm, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar for an added touch of sweetness.

Notes

Store leftover fritters in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. They can also be frozen for up to three months.
