  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, sugar, and vanilla extract until well blended.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.

Cooking

  • Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Lightly grease the waffle iron if necessary. Pour the appropriate amount of batter into the preheated waffle iron, close the lid, and cook until golden brown.
  • If you prefer to fry them, heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown on both sides.

Serving

  • Let the waffle donuts cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days; refrigerated for up to a week. Reheat in a toaster or microwave.
