  • 2 large large apples (like Granny Smith) Tart apples work best.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Optional variation.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Add to the filling.

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened) Use softened butter for best results.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup milk

Optional Serving Suggestions

  • vanilla ice cream For serving.
  • caramel sauce For drizzling on top.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Peel and core the apples, then slice them into halves or quarters.

Making the Dough

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  • Add the softened butter and mix until crumbly.
  • Gradually add milk until you form a workable dough.

Shaping and Baking

  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick, and cut into squares.
  • Place an apple piece in the center of each dough square, sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar, fold the dough over, and pinch to seal.
  • Place the wrapped dumplings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Serving

  • Serve the dumplings warm, topped with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes.
