Muffins That Taste Like Doughnuts are a delightful twist on a classic treat. They are light, fluffy, and topped with a sweet cinnamon-sugar coating that makes them irresistibly delicious. They’re not heavy or overly sweet either.

I think they’re perfect for any time of the year, and if you’re not a fan of cinnamon, feel free to omit it or substitute with your favorite spice. They will still be undeniably delicious! If you’re looking for a light & airy treat that’s not overly sweet, you’ve come to the right place. When you make these tender muffins and coat them in a sugary topping, you get the perfect treat. The addition of cinnamon just sends them over the top. I’ve really been in the mood for some homemade comfort, and these dreamy muffins remind me of cozy mornings. Not a fan of cinnamon? Don’t worry, they’re still delicious without it.

Kitchen Equipment Needed:

  • Muffin tin
  • Paper muffin liners or non-stick cooking spray
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Rubber spatula
  • Cooling rack
  • Small bowl for coating

Ingredients:

Muffins:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Topping:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, melted butter, and ground nutmeg. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until well mixed.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients:
    • In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring with a rubber spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Fill the Muffin Tin:
    • Evenly distribute the batter among the prepared muffin cups, filling each about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake the Muffins:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  7. Prepare the Topping:
    • While the muffins are baking, melt the butter for the topping in a small bowl. In another small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  8. Coat the Muffins:
    • Once the muffins are done baking, allow them to cool in the tin for about 5 minutes. While they are still warm, dip each muffin top into the melted butter and then into the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating them well.
  9. Cool the Muffins:
    • Transfer the coated muffins to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Enjoy these Muffins That Taste Like Doughnuts fresh out of the oven or at room temperature. Their delightful lightness and sweet cinnamon-sugar topping make them an irresistible treat for any occasion!
