Soft, fluffy, and loaded with cinnamon-sugar goodness, these homemade cinnamon rolls are the ultimate comfort treat. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, they are guaranteed to impress everyone with their gooey centers and creamy frosting.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup whole milk (warm, about 110°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk (optional, for a thinner consistency)

Instructions

1. Make the Dough:

  1. Warm the milk and stir in the yeast and sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes, until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5–7 minutes, either by hand or with a dough hook, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

2. Prepare the Filling:

  1. Mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon into a spreadable paste.

3. Roll and Fill the Dough:

  1. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a 12×18-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  2. Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
  3. Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from the long side. Pinch the seam to seal.

4. Slice and Arrange:

  1. Cut the log into 12 even pieces.
  2. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between them.
  3. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until puffed.

5. Bake the Rolls:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.

6. Make the Frosting:

  1. Beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  2. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until creamy. Adjust with milk if needed.

7. Frost and Serve:
Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls. Serve immediately and enjoy the gooey goodness!

Tips for Perfect Cinnamon Rolls

  • Make Ahead: Prepare the rolls the night before, cover, and refrigerate. Let them come to room temperature and rise before baking.
  • Freezing: Freeze unbaked rolls after slicing. Bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.
  • Extra Gooey: Pour a little heavy cream over the rolls just before baking for extra moisture.

Enjoy these warm, melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven! Perfect with coffee or a glass of milk. 🥐
