Indulge in the velvety smoothness of this fail-proof egg custard recipe. With its rich, creamy texture and delicate sweetness, it’s the perfect dessert to satisfy your cravings.

Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or simply treating yourself to a sweet delight, this egg custard is sure to impress.

Kitchen Equipment Needed:

  1. Oven-safe baking dish or ramekins
  2. Large mixing bowl
  3. Whisk or fork
  4. Saucepan
  5. Fine mesh strainer (optional)

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Ground nutmeg or cinnamon for garnish (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Place your oven rack in the middle position.
  2. Prepare the Baking Dish: Lightly grease an oven-safe baking dish or individual ramekins with butter or cooking spray. Set aside.
  3. Mix the Custard Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until well combined and slightly frothy. Gradually pour in the whole milk while continuing to whisk. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, and whisk until smooth.
  4. Strain the Mixture (Optional): For a smoother custard, you can strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove any lumps or air bubbles.
  5. Pour into Baking Dish: Carefully pour the custard mixture into the prepared baking dish or ramekins, dividing it evenly if using multiple ramekins.
  6. Bake the Custard: Place the baking dish or ramekins in a larger baking pan or roasting pan. Pour hot water into the larger pan until it reaches about halfway up the sides of the baking dish or ramekins, creating a water bath. This helps the custard cook gently and evenly.
  7. Bake in the Preheated Oven: Transfer the pan to the preheated oven and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the custard is set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  8. Cool and Serve: Carefully remove the baking dish or ramekins from the water bath and let them cool on a wire rack for about 30 minutes. Once cooled, refrigerate the custard for at least 2 hours, or until chilled and set.
  9. Garnish and Enjoy: Before serving, sprinkle ground nutmeg or cinnamon on top of the custard for an extra touch of flavor and visual appeal. Serve the fail-proof egg custard chilled and enjoy its silky smooth texture and delightful taste!
