Easy Apple Pie Filling Coffee Cake is a delightfully moist cake that’s filled with luscious apple pie filling and topped with a crumbly streusel. It’s not heavy or overly sweet either. I think it’s a perfect autumn or holiday dessert, and if you’re not an apple fan, feel free to use any pie filling of your choice.

It will still be undeniably delicious! If you’re looking for a light & flavorful dessert that’s not overly sweet, you’ve come to the right place. When you make a soft and moist coffee cake and pair it with a rich apple filling & a crumbly streusel topping, you get the perfect cake. The addition of warm spices just sends it over the top. I’ve really been in the mood for cozy, comforting desserts, and this dreamy cake reminds me of fall and festive gatherings. Not a fan of apple? Don’t worry, it’s still delicious with other fruit fillings.

Kitchen Equipment Needed:

  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer or whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula
  • 9×13 inch casserole dish
  • Oven

Ingredients:

Cake:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 can (21 ounces) apple pie filling

Streusel Topping:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

Directions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch casserole dish and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Cake Batter:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, sour cream, eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Use an electric mixer or whisk to beat the mixture until smooth and well combined.
    • Pour half of the batter into the prepared casserole dish and spread it evenly.
  3. Add the Apple Pie Filling:
    • Spoon the apple pie filling evenly over the batter in the casserole dish.
  4. Add the Remaining Batter:
    • Pour the remaining cake batter over the apple pie filling and spread it evenly to cover the filling.
  5. Prepare the Streusel Topping:
    • In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Add the softened butter and use a fork or your fingers to combine the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Add the Streusel Topping:
    • Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the top of the cake batter in the casserole dish.
  7. Bake the Cake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
  8. Cool and Serve:
