Cajun Butter Bourbon Steak is a wonderfully flavorful dish that’s seared to perfection and topped with a rich, buttery sauce infused with the smoky notes of bourbon. It’s not overly spicy or heavy either. I think it’s a perfect dish for a special dinner or a festive gathering, and if you’re not a fan of spicy food, feel free to adjust the Cajun seasoning.

Kitchen Equipment Needed
- Cast iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan
- Mixing bowls
- Tongs
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Whisk
Ingredients
For the Steak:
- 4 ribeye or sirloin steaks (about 8 ounces each)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Cajun Butter:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
For the Bourbon Sauce:
- 1/4 cup bourbon
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon butter
Directions
- Prepare the Cajun Butter:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter with the Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, dried thyme, and dried oregano. Mix until well blended. Set aside.
- Season and Sear the Steaks:
- Season the steaks with salt and black pepper on both sides.
- Heat the olive oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
- Add the steaks to the skillet and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside to rest.
- Make the Bourbon Sauce:
- In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Carefully add the bourbon to the skillet (it may flame up briefly) and stir to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
- Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Allow the sauce to simmer for about 5 minutes, or until it reduces and thickens slightly.
- Finish with Cajun Butter:
- Reduce the heat to low and stir in the prepared Cajun butter until it melts and the sauce is smooth.
- Return the steaks to the skillet and spoon the sauce over them, allowing them to heat through for about 2 minutes.
- Serve:
- Transfer the Cajun Butter Bourbon Steaks to a serving platter.
- Spoon the remaining sauce over the steaks.
- Serve with your favorite sides, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh green salad.
This Cajun Butter Bourbon Steak recipe offers a perfect blend of rich, buttery flavors and a hint of smoky bourbon, making it a hit for any special occasion. Enjoy!
